Speed Painting Challenge #14: A Steampunk Christmas

I haven't done Steampunk theme before, so this is pretty new for me- drawing wise! :D I've done this image in 25 mins, quite happy the way it turned out especially making the machinery metal bits! :)

Speed Painting Challenge #13: The Megaliths of the Mistletoe Queen

Took a little more time than before since I got carried away from doing it as a 30 mins speed paint to 1hr and 30mins paint. :S I was really inspired to make this style after looking at the "Art of" books on "The Rise of The Guardians" from the Living lines library, but as a first tryout, Im really happy the way it turned out! ^_^

Speed Painting #12: "A very Jules Verne Christmas"

Couldn't help but think back to one of my favourite units that I did last year, so I went back and drew up the lava cave looking out to the frozen mushrooms. Really got stuck into this image and tried to use the techniques that I've learnt from last year into this quick image but this time it took me 45 mins to do. :D

Character Design Project: Alien Villain (Vándr) Turnaround

Here is the alien villain's turnaround, now named Vándr which is a Norse word for bad, evil. :) I've also included a version of what his body would be like if he was upright but doing this to me feels like the character lost its personality and would make things more confusing.

Speed Painting Challenge #10 and #11: "The Dance of the Sugar Plum Scary'" and "The Ice-Castle of the Yeti King"

My internet decided to play up on me during the afternoon and woudn't let me upload yesterdays speed challenge :( So anyway, here's yesterdays and today's speed challenge painting. Yesterday's image took just 30 mins and also really enjoyed drawing the style, and with today's image, it took me 30 mins as well. Sllightly improving on the timings now!! :D

Speed Painting Challenge #9: The Dormitory For Weary Elves...

Decided to go for a Christmasy space theme, didn't turn out "for the weary" as I thought it would... :( This time this piece took me 45 mins to do.

Speed Painting Challenge #7: "Exclusive! Santa's System For Simultaneous Present Delivery Revealed!"

Here I present to you Santa's new system for simultaneous present delivery, "The Pressie Thingy-mabob!!"  This piece took and hour and a half to do as I decided to experiment in how I draw things starting with block colours instead of opacity changes.

Character Design Project: Concept Art 1

A little concept art I made of the Alien Villain and Odin. I played around further with the lighting for something more dramatic- like which I think works well. :D

Speed Painting Challenge #6: Walking In a Winter Wonderland...

When I first saw today's theme, can't help but think of this!! :D This piece took me nearly an hour to do but it was really fun to do!! ^_^

It is also a remake version from another speed painting piece that I've did a while back. :)

Speed Painting Challenge #5: What Happened Next When The CGAA Intern Pulled The Wrong Lever In Santa's State-of-the-Art Toy Factory...

The aftermath of when a lever is pulled in the wrong way, this piece took me an hour and is not exactly the finished piece as I've kept changing in how the piece should look- defeating the purpose of Speedpainting!! :O

So to make up for it, here's another piece only this time its done in 10mins. :D

Character Design Project: Dragon Sidekick Colour Tests 6

Just another few colour tests that I've gathered from playing around with the hues and saturations using the last post's colour scheme. I've also added these along with the whole characters for comparison and what works well and what doesn't. :D

Character Design Project: Dragon Sidekick colour tests 5

Another colour change, as the previous colour along with the character line- up seemed too much red as well  as making the dragon sidekick's personality a bit devil-like. So taking on the colour scheme similar to Uni from Dungeons and Dragons, here's another colour test along with the rest of the characters excluding numbers 3,6,10 and 13 as they're a bit bland. :)

Speed Painting Challenge #4: When Good Toys Turn Bad...'

Had a lot of fun doing this one but ran out of time!! Took me 40mins but wanted to add more toys. This one is taken from under the bed where a torch light is shown from behind, the barbie doll is slightly in a distorted pose that will need fixing. Couldn't help but add a bad my little pony in!!  :D

Character Design Project: Dragon Sidekick colour tests 4

After comparing the colours with the hero and villain, it was decided that the dragon should have a different colour as it seemed too similar to the alien villain. So from TutorPhil's feedback on changing the colour to a bright red, here I have made the changes also changing slightly the hues and stripes as well as including them with the hero and villain for comparison minus thumbnails 6,7,12 and 13 as they seemed "not fit".

Spped Painting Challenge #3: The Gingerbread Palace In The City Of Sweets

Oopsies!! went a bit overtime on this one! Decided to use some red and pinks for outlines instead of the usual black and whites. This one took me 45 mins. :D

Character Design Project: Dragon Sidekick colour tests 3

After looking at the previous colour tests along with the rest of the characters, I felt that the sidekick seemed too much like the alien villain, confusing its poistion. So I've changed the saturation around using the colour thumbs I liked and placed them along with its "originals" and with the rest of the characters again once more for comparison. From this, I liked numbers  6a, 9a and 11a.

Character Design Project: Dragon Sidekick colour tests 2

Based on the feedback from Justin and TutorPhil, I've used a mixture of colours based on thumbnails 8, 11 and 13. I've mostly stuck to the greeny- blue or turqiouse colours and played around with each thumbnail either adding stripes or none. I also enlarged the wings a bit more as they seem to be too exaggeratedly small for a character that can only manage to lift itself a few inches off the ground for less than 30 secs. I like numbers 4,6,9, 11 and 14 at the moment. I've also included the character using the colour thumbnails I llike with the villain and hero characters together to see what it would be like as a trio.

Character Design Project: Early concept art

A previous early concept art I've made of the dragon sidekick.

Speed painting challenge #2: Jack Frost's Asylum For Malcontent Snowmen

Feel like doing this in a more cartoony way so here's my interpretation for today's theme :Jack Frost's Asylum For Malcontent Snowmen. This one took me 1 hour to draw and the bottom image which is pretty much a snowman being watched via a cctv camera in his room, this one took me 30 mins.

speed painting!!

I thought it might be fun to join in the speed painting craze that everyone's been doing on their blogs. Its also a good time for me to brush up and free up my painting skills especially using different brushes on Photoshop. So I've drawn up these two images, the top image was done within 40 mins and the last image which I'm happy it turned out well was done within an hour. ^_^

Character Design Project: Alien Villain Colour Tests 3

Updated
More colour tests on the Alien Villain, using colour thumbnails 7,9 and 10 from the previous post I have played around with them more. I've changed the saturation of the blacks but keeping the red highlights, though the red highlights were intentionally set as red lighting hitting down on the character, it seemed to suit the shells and giving it a more evil look. At the moment I am liking numbers 6,8, 9 and 10 which includes red highlights all over its face and arms.

Previous post: Chosen numbers 7,9 and 10

Character Design Project: Dragon sidekick colour tests

Here are some colour tests on my sidekick dragon. I'm only playing around with colours at the minute to find one that would balance out with the hero and the villains colours, like a neutral colour. So far I am liking numbers 8,9 11 and 13.

Character Design Project: Odin's colour test sheet

Here I've started experimenting with different colours for Odin. I've thought about keeping earth tones more but add in a few different colours in as a tryout. Also I am experimenting with his hair colour because at the minute he's looking a bit too "Thor" instead of Odin. But still so far I am liking numberse 5,7 and 14.

Character Design Project: Alien Villain Colour test 2

Based on the received feedback, it was decided that colours 5, 8 and 9 were the popular ones. So this time I've merged all the chosen colours together and mix them around to see would they be more interesting than the previous ones. At the moment I am liking numbers 7,9 and 10. Let me know what yous think!! :D

Updated: mixed around chosen colours from previous post.

Previous colour test- chosen numbers were 5.8 and 9.

Narrative and Character: Anecdote Studios: Alan Facial Expressions sheet

Guys, just a little note here on getting the "perfect expressions" if yous want it on the Alan model.

To find the Jaw Ctrl-its at the back of his head. I've put that and the eye ctrls (on the right) both indicated in yellow.

Just move the Jaw rotate to the digit written below and ta-da!!

(Sorry got carried away during rigging and thats how its ended up at the back of his head!!)

Please Note: The jaw rotate default for his mouth to close is -32. I dont know how that happened but  -32 is the number!

Numbers to  put under jaw rotate for the "perfect expression":

Eee                                      -                              -21.32
Uuu                                      -                              -12.1
Ooo                                     -                              -23
Mm/Bb                                -                              -32
Argh                                    -                              -6.17
Frown                                 -                              -32

Deafult Mouth Close      -                              -32

Also all the files and backup on the character are on the Dropbox folder under "Alan_Model". Let me know if theres any problems accessing them.

Narrative and Character: Anecdote Studios: Alan-rigged,skinned,blended= complete!!

Finally after many weeks, I've got the character all rigged, skinned and blend shaped ready for animating!! ^_^ There was a slight mishap when it came to blendshaping the model's expressions like teeth getting stuck, twitching and many other bits and bobs. Many thanks to Alan for helping to get this fixed!!
