Unit 1: Anatomy Presentation

Anatomy Presentation

CD cover art

Thanks Lev for the CD template and for helping with getting the CD sorted, here's my submission disk artwork. I just thought of keeping the purple idea from the OCR and it quite suits the zebra so I just added in some of my sketches and add a slight purple tint to them. ^_^

Hybrids and Me: FINAL IMAGE!!! ^_^

Final Image!! ^_^

Final image profile view
Finally, I have manged to come up with a final image. Using the feedback from classmates and some second and third years, I've decided to combine two image ideas but kept most of the features from one. So started drawing from a silhouette, until the head and shoulders became a difficult thing for me to judge with, then adding in some colours, skins and stripes.

Originally, I was about to use the profile view version instead as my final image but thought that it would be better from a near "front" view.

Hybrids and Me: sketches 7 and potraits

Another addition towards my hybrids design with the left image going as a "half primal ape" with the zebra bits in it. I also thought about how the hooves can be fused with the hands and so thought that I can put the hooves to act as webbed between the fingers, and that when the hands clasped it can form a perfect round hooves.

Nearly forgot that I need to do these, so basically these portraits are based on some photographs and also drew some hands and feet sketches.

Hybrids and Me: Photoshop Silhouette Sketches

Here are some silhouettes that I've been working on towards my final design of my hybrid. I've looked at how both zebra and human skeletal designs can be combined as well as making them into a silhouette. After experiementing with the brushes, I have managed to recreate a natural-like zebra stripes which I hope to use for most of my designs.

This is the latest image that I've been working on, I thought of the idea of how the style of me can be combined and shown onto the hybrid. The terrified emotion is just for experimentation but so far, it seems to go well.

Hybrids and Me: Sketches 6 :P

Here are more sketch ideas for my hybrid design, I've looked at baby zebras and how the length of the feet is much longer. I've also given thought about the faces as well as body structure but still not sure... :S

More head ideas!!

Hybrids and Me: sketches 5

Just for a quick tryout sketch, the top image head is based on the image of a cartoon-ish head (right) with a human torso along with human arms and fingers and the legs of a zebra with human feet that has hooves at the end which looks like its wearing slippers.
As for the image on the left, based on the same head sketch (above) it contains a human torso with zebra arms that has human hands which can slots itself into the hoof. Then the legs is based on the baby zebras with small human feet and toes at the bottom.

This image is another elaborated version of one of the head sketches (above) added with a muscle looking body and the zebra legs with a single human toe behind.

Hyrbids and Me: sketches 4

More head sketches!! I've decided to experiment with the human and zebra's skulls together from the side and wonder about the nose and the jaw placements. This is the first image that I managed to come up with. I've then tried to add in the eyes and other facial features until I came up with a "dragon" look.

Trying with the experimentation of the lower lip, I've also experiment in going for something that looks a bit more muscle looking.

I've decided to try out to recreate the zebra head, in a different structure though through this result looks a bit more reptilian than zebra/ human kind.

Lastly, this tryout was more focused on the human skull with added parts of the zebra's skull. The results of this looks more cartoon-ish due to the eyes which was not intended but just an experiment and adding the colours onto the rough sketch "did" make it look more zebra like than human.

Hybrids and Me: sketches 3

Looking back at my previous sketches, I've decided to try and develop on the "dominant" body structure. I've also tried to add in the facial developments as well with the arms and legs with little bits of human parts to it like the "hooves with feet" and the "fingered hooves". I was really pleased with the image on the right however, the more I look at it, the more it looked like the Navi creatures from Avatar! I didn't realised this until the facial features, the body structures and the stripes started to look too familar to the Navi which was why I didn't add them in to the influence maps. (;_;)

Hybrids and Me: Zebra potrait!!

I have drawn an image of a zebra from my influence map using the graphics tablet on Photoshop.

Hybrids and me: sketches 2

Here are some more sketches for my hyrbid design, fusing the humand and zebra skulls together as well as thinking of how it looks in the flesh. Experimentation of the eyes and a rough silohuette drawing of the full body- inspired by the look of El Fauno from Pan's Labyrinth. I've also tried to think of ideas of the hands with tiny hoofs in place of nails and the feet with some few humanoid toes remain. I also am thinking of how the hybrid creature can adapt to its enviroment especially in the dry plains in the grass.

Influence map 2

Another influence map!! Looking at the skeletal structures and how I can combine the human and zebra skeleton together. I am also inspired by the kids TV series, Animorphs where one of the characters "morphs" into a horse which as depicted by the stills above can still show the fusion of horse and human. I have also included the skeletal structure of satyrs, centaurs, faun

Photoshop!! Week 1 and 2!!

On the first week with photoshop Phil, we had a tutorial on drawing concept art using Photoshop. We did some practices on our own and I managed to draw a zebra on photoshop using the graphics tablet but ended up being strangely deformed.
The image taken from my sketch done on photoshop using the graphics tablet
So for the second week, I had some sketches prepared and showed them to Photoshop Phil. Though I've already started on drawing the lower right image on photoshop, Phil liked the idea of the upper far right image which is quite anthromorphic and that I should perhaps focus more on the faces. Though drawing a hybrid of human and a zebra is quite hard as most of the ideas mostly goes towards the direction of a centaur "only with stripes", the structure idea of "Mr Taumnus" is interesting as well but is also quite common. So for now its back to the drawing board...\(^ã…‚^)/

An experimental head whilst trying to show "agonising pain", looks strange but ugly!!

The sketches shown to Phil (middle images of the page were added in later)

Hybrids and me: sketches

Based on my influence map, here are some rough sketches of hybrids and the zebra anatomy, looking at the faces, side and how both can be formed as well as skeletal structures.

Zebra Influence map

The images within this influence map contains specific parts that I would like to concentrate more on when making my hybrid designs. The zebra cartoons on the top of the map are from The Lion King which I find that the simple design on the feet, head and stripes are quite interesting.

The middle left image is to focus on the posture as well as how the legs move when in action. The middle right image is a close up image of the stripes of the zebra even though zebras have various stripe patterns, I felt that having an image of it helps act as a rough guide.

Again the bottom left image is the whole look of the zebra, focusing on the structure of the body and the hooves. Lastly, the bottom right image is the close up of the zebra's head, looking at the designs and patterns of the stripes on its face and looking at the structure of the head and the eyes.

Hybrids and Me: My "other" subject- A ZEBRA!!

After entering "The telepod of awesomeness", I was pleased to find out that my animal (and subject B) is:

Equus burchelli.

...In other words, a Plains Zebra.

This creature is something that I am excited working with, like the advantages of the stripes, the anatomy structure and the colours. My journey begins now as a hybrid creature...
