For my characters to look child-like and simple, I've looked at mainly Eric Carle and Charley Harper for artistic style, using various materials, brushes and simple shapes to make the characters unique. I've also looked at cartoons that are slightly similar to their works on tv like Elmer the patchwork elephant, Yoko, Jakamoto Toto and other tv shows.

Adaptation: Drip the electric cat- Aims and influences
As for Drip the Electric Cat, I shope to aim this animation towards 2-10 year olds. I'm still deciding over what it's purpose is whetehr if it is a safety demo or giving a morale to its viewers.
As for its influences, since the design is already limited as it was drawn by a 4 or 5 year old version of me. I thought about refining some of it details like the eyes as well as giving it some personality. Here is my influence map.

Adaptation: Monsters in my Bedroom- Aims and influences
The aim of this animation is to tell kids that there is nothing to be scared of in their own bedroom. My target audience for this would be somewhere around Key stage one age groups.
As for the influences, I would go for a child friendly cartoon style as not to completely frighten the kids out at night. So far here's my influence map.

Narrative and Character: Anecdote Studios: More art styles influences
Here are more art styles that we could use in our animations. Instead of looking at 50's I've looked at styles before and after the time era. Also the idea of a serious-silly American Dad character reminded me of the silly-but-serious-in-his-policemen-job character based on the Phoenix Wright video games.

Summer project: 1 becomes 2- More influences
After having some technical difficulties, I'm finally back online!! :D So to make up for the missing few days/ weeks I've looked into more research into the kind of art style that I like to use for my music interpretation.
I've looked at the different shapes and patterns that make up the faces in tiki style and I've also looked at the colours, shapes and patterns used in UV body art to help me create a neon tiki styled face.

Summer project: 1 becomes 2: Influence map
After taking a quite a long hiatus from being on the blog, I think its about time I got focussed on the summer project. Based on some small influences on my first summer project post, I've piled them all up into an influence map. I felt that from listening to soundscape 3 gave me the idea of tribal like art styles, so I went to look at some Aztec, Aboriginal and African tribal art since these mostly contains simple shapes, bright colours and patterns.

Unit 6: Commission- Tentacles and Jelly influence map
Here are more influence maps of tentacles and of jelly- like haribo sweets as suggested by TutorPhil. I've put them all in an influence map just to make things a bit easier as well as being the main focus for the next set of character designs. For the jelly- haribos, I've looked at the gummy bears, rings and the eggs since they could relate to the nucleus idea. The tentacles are mainly of octopus and a sealife creature for the idea for the cancer cell.

Unit 6: Commission- Character styles influence map
After speaking to TutorPhil I have decided to change the genre and audience for my story, making it a family friendly audience. I've decided to change the genre because after looking at my Maya cancer character, I felt that the "cute chibi" idea was good, but it overtook the focus of being a baddie. Though stylewise I have thought about looking at cartoons that may have a hero/ villain kind of character as the purpose for my animation is to create awareness since this form of cancer is rare and unknown. So far I have looked at the bacteria from the Domestos advert, Monsters Inc, monsters from Scooby Doo and Ghost Busters.

Unit 5: Animation- body structure influence map
Having a look at the body structure, expression and where the weight is at its heaviest (like relying on a walking frame) to help me come up ideas for my Penny Farthing. I am also looking at different ways which the eyes can be expressed as myopic and happy at the same time without the use of an extra prop added in.
